SUSTAINABILITY IS WHAT DRIVES US

We put a lot of passion and conviction into the topic of sustainability. For us, this is not just a ‘nice to have’, but a genuine concern.
That is why it is also a strategic goal in the ebalta vision. We are doing everything we can to make our duranity moulding compounds ever more sustainable. One aspect is the high abrasion resistance, which increases the service life of a climbing hold, which also contributes to sustainability. The upcycling option with ebacoat also significantly extends the life cycle, resulting in less waste. However, the use of raw materials from renewable sources is at the heart of our concern, which we want to increase further - without wanting to compromise on the performance of our product, i.e. its high abrasion resistance.
So what is the current state of affairs?
As you have already seen in some of our how-to videos, duranity consists of two components: the polyol and the isocyanate.

There are natural oils for the polyol, such as castor oil, sunflower oil, etc., which can be used in a polyurethane system. We can therefore produce 80 per cent of the polyol sustainably.
The situation is different for the isocyanate component: Although there are initial approaches here, these are more climate-neutral on paper than we can actually source sustainable raw materials for them in reality. There is also no economic viability: The only slightly improved carbon footprint does not justify the higher price.
But that is only the current situation. In the long term, I am firmly convinced that we will make progress here too.
Our aim is to produce a material that consists of 100 per cent raw materials from renewable sources.
